The Summer Salon 2017

It's time for the Summer Salon, an evening joining together all disciplines of art - from different forms of music to design, humor, theater and visual art. We are building a community open to all the arts--high-brow, low-brow, popular, classic, traditional, experimental, and everything in between--and committed to audiences' exploration and exposure to different viewpoints and experiences.

The Salon will be held July 27 at a loft in DUMBO at 7:00pm. Exact address will be private messaged to those who responded "going" closer to the date of the event.

About the Artists ˜

Raquel Rivera is a contemporary jazz and world music vocalist from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The young talent is set apart by her bright, smooth tone and her innovative delivery of tunes ranging in style. Bringing an eclectic range of repertoire to every performance, rivera draws from her roots in caribbean and latin american music, as well as her love of contemporary jazz. Singing in both english and spanish, she presents a breadth of textures and colors that support her unique arrangements.

Born into a family of Venezuelan folk musicians, jazz pianist Benito Gonzalez has always had a deeprooted appreciation for pastimes and traditions. Today, as a rising star of one of America’s finest musical traditions, Gonzalez has come to his current status by following in the footsteps of jazz’s ancestral forebears. The fusion of world rhythms and straight-ahead jazz makes this passionate performer an audience favorite all over the world.

In a vibrant collaboration, Puerto Rican vocalist Raquel Rivera and Argentine composer Tomás Latorre fuse the sounds of traditional South American Folklore with jazz inspired, through-composed arrangements. Warm vocals and intricate harmonies highlight the richness of Latorre's writing and magnify his reflective and intimate stories. Raquel y Tomás present a world in which both dreams and reality may beautifully coexist.

A night of original music & Jazz with vocalist Raquel Rivera and pianist Sharik Hasan.

Raquel Rivera is a contemporary jazz and world music vocalist from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The young talent is set apart by her bright, smooth tone and innovative delivery of tunes ranging in style. Bringing an eclectic range of repertoire to every performance, Rivera draws from both her roots in caribbean music and a deep love of contemporary jazz. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, the vocalist now resides in New York City.

Sharik Hasan is one of the leading pianists and composers of his generation to emerge from India. In 2007, Hasan moved to Paris for two years to study at the Bill Evans Piano Academy where the young pianist integrated quickly into the jazz scene, playing in international festivals with his trio. He was subsequently awarded scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he was selected to be part of a special honors program, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, under the tutelage of Danilo Pérez. Sharik Hasan received his master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2014 and currently works in New York City as a pianist, composer, and educator.
